Students celebrate opening of their new Foundation School

Over 600 students, families, staff and distinguished guests celebrated the grand opening of St Paul's Way Foundation School on 31st October 2018.

It was the latest development for St Paul’s Way which has seen a range of new facilities open for the community over the past decade, many delivered by St Paul’s Way Trust School.

There was a real carnival atmosphere as student drummers, dancers and musicians joined together with developer Telford Homes and Housing Association Poplar HARCA in this beautiful, bright and purpose built site; an ideal space for the future adults of this community to learn, play and develop as they engage with an inspirational curriculum under the care of dedicated teachers and support staff.

Families and visitors toured the wonderful new teaching spaces, playground and Early Years' outdoor spaces including the orchard and allotment and the younger children enjoyed the new playground equipment.

The school opened in temporary accommodation in 2013, and the new purpose-build facilities allow the school to expand it numbers. It is already over-subscribed!

This wonderful occasion also served as an opportunity to celebrate the fruition of the exciting 'Through School' vision started a few years ago by Grahame Price NLE, in his former role as Executive Headteacher, and Professor Peter Heathcote, the then Chair of Governors. They are now Chief Executive and Chair respectively of UST, which oversees these schools.

In the opening ceremony Grahame Price thanked the wide team of people who had delivered this new school building, adding “students will benefit even more from the exceptional teaching and learning possible in these new state of the art facilities.”

Provision had been further enriched by the unique contribution of the University School Trust, which oversees the running of the school, and its Business Partners. An added advantage of the scheme is that working with Poplar Harca on this development ensures that many of the facilities, including the school hall, will be available for community use.

Steve Stride, CEO of Poplar Harca, one of the Trust Partners, said “We’re proud to have taken the school from concept to completion. It’s important for our young people and their parent. The school is part of our regeneration programme which includes homes, a faith building, two pockets parks and a games area.”
