Amila Ahmed BEM Award

We are incredibly proud to share the wonderful news that Amila Ahmed, Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Cyril Jackson Primary School, has been awarded a British Empire Medal for Services to Education, to be included in the New Year 2026 Honours List.

Amila was nominated in 2024 by our trust leader Gillian Kemp who has witnessed first hand the depth of Amila’s commitment to the children and families of this community. Following an independent assessment process, the nomination was endorsed by the Main Honours Committee, recommended by the Prime Minister and formally approved by His Majesty The King. This prestigious national recognition reflects both the consistency and the impact of Amila’s work over more than two decades.

For 21 years, Amila has been a constant and caring presence within the school and the wider local community. She has always gone the extra mile to ensure that children feel valued, safe and confident, supporting them through challenges, celebrating their successes and helping them to believe in themselves. Her contribution extends well beyond the classroom, including personal support for young learners with CV writing and preparation for future pathways.

Reflecting on her career, Amila shares, “What I love most about my job is knowing that I can make a child feel valued, safe and confident. Even the smallest moments, a smile, a kind word, a bit of extra time, can stay with them.” She also speaks warmly of the joy of seeing former pupils return to share their successes, a reminder that everyday moments truly matter.

Amila has described feeling truly honoured and overwhelmed by the award, calling it a remarkable way to start the new year. While this recognition celebrates her individual contribution, it also reflects the strength of the community she serves and the unwavering support around her. This is a richly deserved honour, and we join together in congratulating Amila on this outstanding achievement.
