Cyril Jackson Career Day

Pupils at Cyril Jackson Primary School recently held their annual Career Day. The event was designed to inspire young learners to think about their future careers from an early age, while introducing them to a wide range of professions they may not have encountered before.

Across both school sites, pupils engaged with visiting professionals from many different industries, taking part in practical workshops that brought careers to life. In veterinary nursing, pupils practised bandaging soft toy animals and learned how medical swabbing is used in animal care. In geology and engineering, they created cross sections of land to explore how foundations are planned and built safely.

Other workshops helped pupils step into the roles of architects, fashion designers and personal trainers. They explored architectural styles and possible career pathways, designed and created backpack concepts through collage work, and made healthy fruit bowls while learning about wellbeing and nutrition.

Pupils also experienced a range of wider professions. They developed business ideas and explored what profit means in a money management session, took part in a Dragons Den style pitch for a community sauna concept, and designed event decorations with an events planner and café owner. In addition, they learned about the work of the Metropolitan Police, including procedures and equipment, and explored the role of civil servants by writing and delivering speeches.

Senior engineers also introduced pupils to flood risk management, where they compared surface water runoff and learned how sustainable drainage systems help improve urban environments.

Career Day at Cyril Jackson Primary School reflects the Trust's commitment to broadening opportunities and raising aspirations from the earliest stages of education. By giving pupils access to real world experiences and role models, the event helps them understand the variety of pathways available to them.

Career day is a key reflection of our mission to make learning truly transformational for our young people. By exposing pupils to ambitious opportunities, real world professions and meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom, we are helping every child build the confidence, curiosity and ambition needed to shape their future success.
