Cyril Jackson Pupil Leaders Take Action for Cleaner Air

Recently, pupil leaders from Cyril Jackson Primary School took part in an inspiring workshop at the Transport for London headquarters, where they explored the importance of clean air and the role young people can play in creating healthier communities.

During the workshop, pupils learned about the impact air pollution can have on health and wellbeing. Through interactive activities and discussions, they developed a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges facing local communities and why improving air quality matters for everyone.

Working together, the pupil leaders created action plans outlining practical ways they can help improve air quality around their schools. They considered initiatives that could encourage positive behaviour across the school community and support a healthier environment for pupils, staff and families.

The workshop also focused on effective communication. Pupils learned how strong communication skills can help leaders share ideas, influence others and create meaningful change.

They then put these skills into practice by preparing and delivering speeches, building confidence and learning how to communicate their messages clearly and effectively.

Following the workshop, the pupil leaders are now ready to take the next steps in their projects. Their first task will be to present feedback and ideas to their school councils, helping to ensure that the voices of their peers are heard and represented.

Across the Trust, these young leaders will continue to champion initiatives that promote cleaner air and encourage positive environmental action within their school communities.

This experience is a reflection of our Trust’s mission to provide transformational education for all. By developing leadership, communication and problem solving skills while tackling real world environmental challenges, pupils are gaining the knowledge, confidence and sense of responsibility needed to create positive change in their communities and beyond.
