Pupils at Sir William Burrough Primary School were recently inspired by a visit from acclaimed children’s author Onjali Q. Raúf, in an event that brought together students from across our Trust, including guests from St Paul's Way Trust School.

Returning to the school she once attended, Onjali shared how her storytelling journey began in childhood, creating bedtime stories for her brother and even turning sibling rivalries into imaginative tales.

She spoke about discovering books through her local library and how reading Tintin taught her the power of asking questions, a theme that now shapes her own writing.

Pupils were captivated as she discussed her books, including the inspiration behind The Boy at the Back of the Class, drawn from her experiences visiting a refugee camp.

The children asked thoughtful questions about her writing process, learning that each book presents its own challenges and can take years to complete.

The event fostered a strong sense of unity, with pupils from different Trust schools sharing in the same enriching experience.

Opportunities like these reflect our commitment to collaboration and ensuring that all young people across our schools benefit from meaningful, memorable learning moments.
