Students from Year 11 and Year 12 at Royal Greenwich Trust School recently took part in an enriching visit to Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, joining a wider group of around 50 students from across Greenwich.

The trip provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage with peers from other schools and gain insight into university life at one of the world’s leading institutions. Throughout the day, students spoke with the college admissions tutor, asking thoughtful questions about university funding and the factors that influence admissions decisions.

These discussions helped to demystify the application process and provided clarity on what competitive universities look for in applicants.

They were also given a tour of the college, led by current Cambridge undergraduates, exploring key spaces including the historic library, where they were struck by the atmosphere and academic environment. A three course meal in the dining hall further enriched the experience, with the themed Greek menu offering students the chance to try new foods and experience college life in a unique setting.

A particular highlight of the day was an academic lecture delivered by a Cambridge Classics lecturer, exploring the ideas of Seneca and their relevance in modern society. Students engaged thoughtfully with complex philosophical concepts and asked insightful questions, demonstrating curiosity and confidence.
