Students from Royal Greenwich Trust School had the exciting opportunity to visit UCL MechSpace, where they stepped into the world of engineering and explored the science and innovation behind a Formula 1 car.

Throughout the day, students took part in a range of engaging workshops focused on engineering and civil engineering. They discovered how ideas become reality through careful design, construction and problem solving, gaining valuable insight into the creativity and precision required within these fields.

The visit also highlighted the many career opportunities available within STEM and encouraged students to think about their future pathways.

A particular highlight of the trip was the Formula 1 reaction time challenge, where students tested their reflexes and competed to achieve the fastest response.

The challenge created a great sense of excitement, with congratulations going to Elliot, who achieved an impressive reaction time of just 0.195 seconds and won the competition.

We are also proud to recognise Christyan, who received an award for asking the most insightful question among all students attending from the different schools represented on the day. His curiosity and enthusiasm reflected the qualities we aim to nurture across our Trust.

Most importantly, our students represented their school and Trust exceptionally well. Their behaviour was outstanding, and they showed respect, engagement and teamwork throughout the visit. Staff were incredibly proud of the maturity and enthusiasm displayed by all students.

This experience strongly links to our Trust’s mission of providing transformational education for all. By giving students opportunities to access inspiring experiences beyond the classroom, we help broaden their horizons, develop confidence and open doors to future possibilities.
