Year 8 students from Royal Greenwich Trust School recenctly enjoyed an exciting visit to London's first maths discovery centre, MathsWorld. The trip provided a unique opportunity for students to experience mathematics in a completely different way, demonstrating how the subject can be creative, engaging and relevant to everyday life.

Throughout the visit, students explored a wide range of interactive exhibits designed to bring mathematical concepts to life. By taking part in hands on activities, they were encouraged to investigate patterns, solve problems and think critically while discovering the beauty and power of mathematics.

Some of the most popular activities included using laser cutting technology to create different geometric shapes, cracking secret codes, playing pool on an elliptical table and tackling a variety of mathematical puzzles.

Each activity challenged students to apply their reasoning skills while working independently and collaboratively to find solutions.

The visit also demonstrated how mathematics plays an important role in fields such as engineering, technology, design and computing. By connecting classroom learning with real world applications, students were able to see how mathematical thinking can be used in a wide range of future careers and industries.

The enthusiasm shown throughout the day highlighted the value of learning beyond the classroom. Following the success of the visit, there are plans to provide similar opportunities for students in other year groups, allowing even more young people across the Trust to benefit from this inspiring experience.
