We are delighted to celebrate an exciting collaboration that has enriched learning for pupils at Sir William Burrough (SWB) this term. One of our teachers, Ramisa, worked closely with the Victoria and Albert Museum (Young V&A) team to help develop a creative workshop experience for young learners.

She shared her curriculum expertise with the design team, supporting the creation of an engaging and accessible programme for children.

As a result of this partnership, two classes from SWB were able to attend the workshop free of charge, a significant opportunity as these sessions are usually paid for.

This ensured more pupils could access a high-quality cultural and educational experience and benefit from learning beyond the classroom.

During the workshop, the pupils explored the science of sound in a hands-on and imaginative way. They created movie sound effects for stop motion film clips, including scenes inspired by classic animation, as well as investigating how different materials produce different vibrations. Using experimentation, they selected the most effective objects to create sound effects.

The workshop supported learning across Design and Technology, Science and English. Through this, the young learners were able to generate and develop ideas, select materials for purpose, observe patterns in sound, and build vocabulary through discussion, explanation and evaluation.

This partnership has had a lasting impact by broadening experiences and deepening understanding of how classroom learning connects to real-world industries. The pupils were able to see the relevance of their learning in an authentic and inspiring context.

This amazing opportunity is a reflection of our Trust's commitment to providing transformational education. Our young learners were able to broaden horizons, raise aspirations and inspire lifelong curiosity.
