Sir William Burrough Primary School recently welcomed For2feet Theatre in Education for an engaging road safety workshop designed to help pupils understand how to stay safe when walking near roads and crossing streets.
Through an energetic and interactive performance, pupils explored important road safety rules in a fun and memorable way. The session included a road safety video explaining where it is safest to cross the road, helping children recognise the importance of choosing appropriate crossing points and remaining alert to traffic.
To bring these lessons to life, the workshop featured a miniature road display complete with traffic lights. This practical demonstration helped pupils understand how pedestrian crossings work and why it is essential to follow traffic signals carefully.
One of the highlights was the appearance of the Red Man, who explained his role in telling pedestrians when to wait before crossing. He also shared a humorous story about the Green Man, who was unhappy that people were not waiting for his signal and had started thinking about finding another job. The surprise arrival of the Green Man delighted the children, creating an exciting opportunity to reinforce the message that pedestrians must wait for the correct signal before crossing.
The performance encouraged pupils to participate, ask questions and think carefully about their own journeys to and from school. By combining storytelling, role play and practical demonstrations, For2feet helped make essential safety messages accessible and memorable.
At Sir William Burrough Primary, we understand the importance of equipping children with the knowledge and confidence to make safe decisions in everyday life. Workshops like this help pupils develop independence while reminding them of the responsibilities that come with being a pedestrian.
We are grateful to For2feet for delivering such an engaging learning experience. This initiative reflects University Schools Trust’s mission of providing transformational education for all, ensuring every child gains valuable knowledge and life skills to help them stay safe, grow in confidence and thrive beyond the classroom.
