Year 12 students from St Paul’s Way Sixth Form recently had the opportunity to attend the Medical Carousel networking event, hosted by the Worshipful Company of Barbers in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This event reflects University Schools Trust’s commitment to providing students with meaningful experiences that broaden their understanding of future career pathways.

Throughout the session, students participated in a carousel format, rotating between a series of discussion stations. At each station, they met doctors, surgeons and trainees representing a range of medical specialties. This structure enabled students to take part in focused, small group conversations, creating a supportive environment where they could ask questions and engage with confidence.

Students explored a variety of topics, including routes into medicine, the academic requirements for medical school and the realities of working in healthcare.

Hearing directly from professionals helped to build a clearer picture of the profession, while also highlighting the wide range of roles available within the field. These conversations allowed students to reflect on their own ambitions and better understand the steps needed to pursue a career in medicine.

The event also supported the development of key skills, including communication, confidence and professional awareness. By engaging with experts and current medical students, participants were able to gain valuable insights while building their confidence in a professional setting.
