Students from St Paul’s Way Sixth Form recently took part in an exciting Taster Day at Imperial College London, gaining valuable insight into university life and advanced scientific research. This opportunity reflects our trust’s commitment to broadening students’ experiences and supporting informed decision making about future pathways.

The visit began with a guided campus tour, where students explored a range of facilities and experienced the atmosphere of a world leading institution. They visited key teaching spaces, independent study areas and social hubs, helping them to build a clearer understanding of what studying at a research intensive university might involve.

This allowed students to visualise themselves in a higher education setting and reflect on their next steps.

A highlight of the day was the opportunity to attend two interactive workshops led by current PhD students. These sessions introduced students to advanced research across a variety of scientific fields, demonstrating how academic study connects to real world impact. Students engaged directly with researchers, asking thoughtful questions and gaining insight into university level learning.

During the workshops, students also explored three different types of robots, learning how robotics is applied in areas such as engineering, technology and innovation. Seeing these technologies up close was both inspiring and thought provoking, encouraging deeper interest in scientific development.

Overall, the Taster Day provided a valuable opportunity for students to broaden their horizons, strengthen their academic understanding and grow in confidence as they consider their futures.
