As part of Work Experience Week, Year 10 students from St Paul’s Way Secondary visited the University of Sunderland's Canary Wharf campus to explore higher education and gain a better understanding of the opportunities it can offer for their future.

The visit introduced students to the university environment through a guided tour of the campus, where they explored a range of modern teaching spaces and specialist facilities. They also learned about the variety of degree courses on offer and how higher education can lead to careers across a broad range of industries.

One of the most memorable parts of the day was a visit to the simulation hospital ward. Here, students met Anne, a highly realistic training mannequin used by healthcare students to practise medical procedures in a safe learning environment. They discovered how Anne can simulate a range of medical conditions and even respond to treatments, giving students a fascinating insight into the technology that supports healthcare education.

Throughout the visit, students were encouraged to consider the different pathways available after school and reflect on how their current studies could support their future ambitions.

Experiencing a university campus first hand helped make higher education feel more accessible while highlighting the skills and knowledge needed for a range of professions.
