The National GRID Visiting RGTS

We are proud to announce an enriching visit from the National Grid to Royal Greenwich Trust School, where Year 12 students took part in the Apprenticeship Pathways to Success workshop.

The session formed an important part of our commitment to preparing students for life beyond school through meaningful activities with industry professionals.

During the workshop, the National Grid team guided students through a range of topics that will help with their future career decisions.

These included the importance of transferable and employability skills, the structure of advanced apprenticeships and the varied programme opportunities offered by National Grid. Students also gained a clear understanding of the organisation’s recruitment process and the need to complete applications within the required time frame.

A highlight of the session was the buzz quiz activity, where they were assigned an animal that reflected their personality. This prompted lively discussion about individual strengths and personal identity.

The National GRID also introduced them to the STAR method, a widely used approach in interviews. Students took part in activities that allowed them to write STAR responses on flash cards, demonstrating examples of teamwork and problem solving.

Many of our young learners said the session encouraged them to step out of their comfort zone and build on their confidence for the future.

The impact of the workshop was evident in the level of engagement shown. With several students asking the workshop leads to review their CVs. This shows just how committed they are to improving their employability capabilities for the future.

The combination of practical advice, honest insight and hands on support helped them to understand that there is more than one route to success after sixth form.

This aligns strongly with one of our missions to provide transformational education to our students. By giving them access to real world expertise and opportunities, we help them transform their aspirations into tangible and achievable goals.
