St Paul’s Way Primary Supports Families Ahead of Year 6 SATs

St Paul’s Way Primary School, part of University Schools Trust, recently hosted a dedicated workshop for parents and carers to help them understand the Year 6 SATs process and explore practical ways to support their children in the lead up to their examinations.

The session provided families with clear guidance on what to expect, helping to ensure that both parents and pupils feel informed, prepared and reassured as this important stage of primary education approaches.

Parents received advice on supporting revision at home, with an emphasis on keeping practice light, positive and manageable. The workshop also explained where to access practice papers and provided an overview of the mock examination timetable, helping families understand how pupils will prepare in the weeks ahead.

A key message was that SATs represent only a small part of a child’s educational journey. Although pupils sit their examinations over four days, these tests cannot capture the full range of their knowledge, abilities, creativity and progress. The school encouraged families to maintain a balanced perspective and focus on their child’s wider development as well as their preparation.

The workshop also gave parents the opportunity to ask questions directly about their child’s progress and learn more about the school’s targeted additional support programme. Staff outlined the extra help available to pupils who may need it, explained what happens if a child becomes unwell on an examination day and shared important information about arrangements during SATs week.

By opening up conversations between families and staff, the session strengthened the partnership between home and school, ensuring parents know where to turn for advice and reassurance whenever needed.

We are proud of St Paul’s Way Primary’s commitment to supporting pupils and their families through important educational milestones. This initiative reflects our mission of providing transformational education for all, ensuring every child receives the guidance, encouragement and opportunities they need to thrive and reach their full potential.
